Shopping
In Story Mode, the first thing you'll need to do is purchase a bike. They can be found at the bike shop in the center of the map screen (where else?). After entering the shop, select the "Buy" option shown in the menu, then highlight the first of the four available bikes and tap the gas button. After you buy a bike, the owner of the shop will set up your first race, against an amateur named Miller -- the races are the same as in WGP Mode.
Game Over
The game can end in one of two ways, depending on the option chosen. While in the WGP mode, you are given a limited amount of time to reach the next checkpoint on the track. Fail to show up when the timer expires and the game is over! In Story mode, you're given three minutes each time you press the one player start button. Run out of time, and you run out of game! Just press the one player start button to replenish the timer.
Getting Started
Press the one player start button to begin the game. You'll be presented with three gameplay modes to choose from. WGP Mode is the game's standard arcade racing mode. Story Mode lets you visit different locations in the city, competing against other racers for cash and the chance to customize your ride. Multi Play was designed for two Neo-Geo systems and is not currently available to GameTap users.
WGP Mode
WGP Mode is the most straightforward of the two modes -- you just get on your bike and ride, hoping to reach the finish line before seven fierce competitors. Once you're given the green light, hold down the gas button to accelerate, then press left or right on the controller to steer. Hold down the brake button to give yourself more control in tight turns, and press turbo after setting your bike upright for a temporary boost in speed.
Story Mode
Story Mode offers the player more depth, allowing them to purchase a bike of their own and steadily improve it with the winnings earned from races. While at your apartment, press up and down on the controller to select options, and press the gas button to make your choices. While on the map screen, press left or right on the controller to select a location to visit, then press the gas button to confirm your selection.
Tip: Straight Shot
Turbo is best used at the opening of a straightaway. That way, you're sure to make the most of that extra speed without crashing into objects on the sides of the road.
Tip: Time For A Brake
Be careful how hard you hit the brakes while in a turn. Hold down the button too much and you'll slow down, making it easy for your competitors to overtake you. If you don't hold it long enough, you'll slide off the road and into a billboard!
